Since Leupold is in my Five Best Binoculars ratings and I love compact for most of my travels, this has the features I seek plus it is a bit more heavy duty than the compacts I use now. Gray Phalarope

Without Binoculars I would never see a Grey Phalarope. But at Mono Lake in California and Salt Lake City in Utah I did see them. We spell gray and Europeans spell grey.

These small pelagic waders (oxymoron here) like salt water. They are so much fun to watch because when they are feeding they swim around in circles. Continue reading →

Oh My Goodness January 12th

I missed my New Year’s day annual ritual of a long and sometimes freezing bird walk. It was chilly here in Alabama, but I did not get to the Tennessee River which was near flood stage.
